Hemingway’s Resort, Kenya

Hemingway’s Resort, Kenya, is a small luxury resort overlooking the exotic beach of Watamu National Marine Park. It is located 128 km north of Mombasa and 28 kms south of Malindi. Hemingway’s is three hours drive away from the largest National Park in Kenya, Tsavo East National Park.

Accommodation: With 78 spacious and luxury rooms Hemingways resort invites you to explore the land with full of nature's beauty.  Hemingways rooms and suites are stylishly designed and furnished, giving priority to comfort. Hemingways extends various accommodation options to guests, which include 26 standard rooms, 28 superior rooms, 18 deluxe rooms, and 6 suites. Each room overlooking the turquoise sea has air-conditioning, ceiling fan, private bath with bath accessories, hairdryer, coffee/tea maker, private patio, refrigerator, mini bar, and veranda. Guests can opt from various room categories according to their need and taste.

Activities: Indulge in active sports activities at the resort and make your holidays more memorable. You can enjoy diving, fishing, snorkelling, windsurfing, water skiing, tennis, volleyball, swimming, gymnasium and excursion trips.

Fishing: Hemingways is the ideal venue for your first big-game fishing trips, owing to the diverse nature of the Indian Ocean. The Watamu area boasts a large number of fishing grounds of widely differing nature, all within a short steam of port. These include oceanic tidal rips, shallow bands, and undersea mountains. It is therefore possible to fish a number of different fishing grounds in one days’ fishing, maximising ones chances of success.  This abundance and variety of fishing of Watamu is particularly important for the first-time big-game fisherman. On your first few trips, you want to catch plenty of fish, and not have perhaps just several large specimens to show for a whole weeks fishing.

 Season:

The season commences in August and continues until March. Few of the game species are resident, simply passing through the local waters. As a general guide as there are no fixed rules on fishing habitats, marlin are first on the scene in pursuit of the tuna shoals, which in themselves find the bigger ones around in September - November. Thereafter smaller specimens abound for the rest of the season.

The main Billfish (Sailfish and Marlin) season runs from November to mid/late March but Sailfish and Black Marlin often come inshore in numbers in August (and this month has been fantastic for Black Marlin these last few years).
