Tiger fish - Lake Kariba Houseboat

Situated on the Zambezi River, lake Kariba is a freshwater paradise stretching back from the dam wall for 290km and reaching 42km at its widest point. Kariba covers 6000sq Kms with an average depth of 18 metres. Lake Kariba's waters are studded with islands and fringed by mountains and forests and is a sight not easily forgotten. Lake Kariba supports a large variety of African wildlife on its shoreline and also offers spectacular bird life. Spectacular sunsets can be enjoyed on the deck of your houseboat watching the wildlife parade whilst enjoying well deserved sundowners after a hard, but rewarding days fishing.

What to do

Safaris on Lake Kariba are usually done on a houseboat which offer the opportunity of Tiger fishing as well as Bream or just game viewing by boat along the lake shores. There are a variety of houseboats to choose from and accommodations and comforts vary to suite the individuals requirements and budgets. All Lake Kariba's houseboats come with tender boats from which guests can explore the lake to find the best vantages to catch that elusive trophy tiger or simply take in the sights and sounds of this fantastic setting. All house boats will include experienced guides to ensure the safety of their guests and to further ensure that the very best Kariba experience is gained whilst in their care. Houseboat Safaris are a fantastic way to experience the true wilderness and wildlife of Africa's Lake Kariba. A huge advantage is that you have the ability to go off the beaten track, find a secluded area and simply tie-up on the shores and venture on foot. All excursions will be conducted by qualified crew to ensure your safety and comfort on these truly unique experiences. Lake Kariba houseboats also make the most fantastic photographic platforms that allow for some stunning scenery shots and views of the wildlife you would not be able to get on land.

Fishing

Lake Kariba has a number of trophy fish with Nembwe, Vundu (catfish) and Tigerfish being the most sought after. Artificial lures, spinners and fly are the most popular methods and offer fantastic hard fought battles with these spectacular and hard fighting fish. For those not to familiar with these fishing facets a well presented live or dead bait also delivers trophy catches without requiring to much experience.
